After weeks of contemplating on my interview topic due to the group of interest overlapping with another student and using only GroupMe as a source of media not being strong enough for a topic of discussion, I finally found a topic that would be fascinating not only to me, but to the general public of both Emory students and outsiders as well. I examined clubs or organizations my friends partake in, and I remembered how two brothers of Xi Kappa Fraternity were actually co-Presidents of an organization called China-Tibet Initiatives. Not only was I delighted because the choice of group for the interview, but also due to the general public’s lack of understanding at the current era of Tibetans and the misconceptions that follow with stigmas associated with Tibetans such as traditional, peaceful, or even manual. By interviewing the co-Presidents of China-Tibet Initiatives along with a Tibetan monk, I will try to convey to students that even Tibetan monks use technological inventions to help them get through their everyday lives and their studies at Emory University, along with obtaining information regarding meetings or events of the organization.
In terms of progress of the interview project, I have gotten permission from one of the current co-Presidents, a past co-President, and a Tibetan monk to interview them and was also invited to their China-Tibet Initiatives’ event this Saturday called Losar Potluck Night, which is celebrating Tibetan New Year and meeting the Tibetan monks to learn about their culture, holidays, and tradition. My goals at the Losar event is to shoot some scenes of the event for the movie and take pictures for the website, in the hopes of trying to catch a monk using some form of technology.
With the website, I was given permission from one of the co-Presidents to use some of their pictures they have taken at past CTI events to post on my website. With the plethora of pictures given to me, I was able to put a different picture on the headers for each page, while also being able to make a gallery of the organizations and their members participating in events. I had to rewrite the proposal since the last proposal was for using GroupMe as a media in Residence Life and Housing, specifically targeting Turman Hall at Emory University. In terms of the bios for each interviewer, I did not want to include their reasons in either being a part of the member or chartering the organization since that will all be said in their interviews, so I just put a brief summary of their position in China-Tibet Initiatives and the different organizations they are currently a part of. Currently, I was unable to get the bios for one of the interviewers since though I did get permission to interview him, I do not know anything about this person. In the other materials section of the website, I embed YouTube videos of Emory-Tibet Science Initiatives, trying to overcome the stigma that religious monks do not believe in science.
